FAQs
Do I have to have a certain level of experience to take part?
Of course not! We cater to all levels of experience. From beginners to seasoned professionals.
What class should I start with?
Most people progress through the classes in this order: Monday → Wednesday → Thursday, often combining or supplementing their training with private coaching along the way. Some start with private coaching to build confidence before joining group classes.
The Monday acting course is the best place to begin. It’s specifically targeted for beginners & non-actors —and focuses on developing confidence, presence, and overcoming self-consciousness and through Mindful Acting exercises in a relaxed, low-pressure environment.
Many then move on to the Wednesday class, which is faster-paced and centred on scene work. You don’t need to prepare beforehand—scenes are learned and performed during the class itself.
The Thursday Scene Study class is our most advanced level, designed for those with prior training or experience. It requires you to rehearse outside of class, learn lines independently, and work autonomously between sessions. If you’re unsure whether you’re ready for it, just get in touch and we’ll advise you.
I've never acted before, where should I start?
If you’re coming to us for the first time and don’t have any experience, we recommend starting with the Monday night 10 week Introduction to Mindful Acting course. It provides a welcoming safe environment to explore the course teachings of Mindful Acting. If you’re not yet sure or unavailable for the Monday night group classes, private 1-1 sessions with Dan are the alternative we’d recommend. He can teach you the fundamentals tailored directly to you so that you can feel confident going into group classes, whether it’s with us or anywhere else. 1-1 sessions can be done in person or online, whatever suits you best!
I'm still unsure if this is right for me, can I have a chat with you to make sure?
Of course! The best way is to book in a free 1-1 online consultation via the booking page. Or if your questions are simpler, you’re always welcome to call or message me during business hours. Feel free to use the messenger/whatsapp options available on your screen or head to my Contact page.
Do you only work with actors?
Not at all! I work with people from all backgrounds to help them find more fulfilment, confidence and presence in their lives. Although my first passion is for working with actors, also being an actor myself, I have clients from all backgrounds. From students to office workers to CEO’s, if you like what you see, please feel free to get in touch and have a chat about how we might best work together.
Is it for theatre or film/TV?
Both! We have classes tailored to both contexts. Though we also believe that approaching acting through the lens of mindfulness makes it transferable to all styles of acting!
Won't mindfulness make me lose my edge?
No! A lot has been said about mindfulness in recent years that make it seem like it’s simply a mental stress-ball, but that’s not really an accurate description.
Mindfulness is about coming into a non-adversarial relationship to your experience so that you can be more effective in all your interactions in life. When properly practiced, communication becomes clearer, self-doubt lessens and your tolerance for difficult thoughts and emotions increases. If anything mindfulness can help you tap into your creative edge more!
How many sessions should I book?
As many or as few as you like! As a guiding principle we’ve found that consistency is key. For private coaching we recommend between 4-8 sessions to see clear progress. With both classes and private coaching the offer to purchase bulk-book multiple sessions is available.
How much does it cost?
It ranges between classes, but our Weekly Acting Classes are as little as £17 per class when you buy in bulk, or £20 standard rate. Private coaching is £45. However, if you book multiple sessions at once you’ll be able to save up to 20%! That means only £37 per hour!
Can I pay in instalments?
Absolutely! Many of our classes can be paid in weekly or monthly instalments. If upfront costs for any of our other classes present a barrier to you attending, please do get in touch as we’re keen to ensure that these workshops are accessible to all.
What happens if I can't make a session?
Unfortuantely missed classes cannot be refunded, credited, transferred, rescheduled or replaced under any circumstances, including illness, personal emergencies or other unexpected events. This policy is not intended to be unsympathetic. It applies equally to everyone so that classes can continue to run fairly and sustainably. Please read our terms and conditions when you book.
Do I need to prepare anything in advance?
You don’t need to prepare anything for our Weekly Acting Classes, each class is stand alone. For private coaching, you don’t need to prepare anything, but you are welcome to bring along anything specific you’d like to work on.
For Thursday Scene Study Classes preparation is required from you, but don’t worry we’ll make sure to get in touch well ahead of time for it! With Scene Study you’ll receive the scene you’ll be working on a week before the course start date. To take full advantage of the experience you should be off book by the time the first class comes around. This is why we recommend booking as early as possible and don’t take bookings less than one week prior to the start of the course, to provide ample time for preparation and assignment of scenes and partners. There is also the expectation you and your partner(s) will meet up outside of our weekly classes to put into practice things we chat about and make the most of the time we spend together.
